What this cable does

The LUOM USB4 cable carries 40 Gbps data, 8K video at 60 Hz and up to 240 W power over a 5 ft USB-C to USB-C link. It suits anyone connecting a laptop, dock, SSD, monitor or charging station that uses a USB-C port.

When the jump is worth it

Replaces older cables limited to 20 Gbps or lower power delivery when you need full 40 Gbps bandwidth for eGPU or dual 4K displays, or 48 V at 5 A charging for high-draw laptops and tools. The upgrade matters only if both host and device support USB4 Gen 3x2 or Thunderbolt 3 speeds and PD 3.1 power.

Install and common issues

Plug the reversible male ends into any USB-C port; the cable works bi-directionally with no driver install. Performance drops to 20 Gbps or less if either port is USB 3.2 Gen 2 or earlier, and 240 W charging requires a PD 3.1 charger and device that both accept 48 V 5 A.

Questions about this item

What length is the cable and will it reach a monitor or dock placed further away?

The cable is 5 ft long, giving enough reach for typical desk-to-monitor or desk-to-dock setups without excess slack.

Does it need any driver or firmware step, or is it purely plug-and-play?

It is fully plug-and-play; no driver or firmware installation is required — just connect both USB-C ends to compatible ports.

Will the connectors or cable jacket degrade with frequent plugging and unplugging?

The reversible USB-C male ends and reinforced jacket are rated for thousands of insertion cycles, so normal daily use will not wear them out quickly.
