Aluminium Cyclone Drill 5xD
The M.A. Ford CDACR1406 is a solid-carbide drill built for aluminium and other non-ferrous alloys. Its 5x diameter flute length and two-flute geometry target high-volume production runs where chip evacuation and hole quality are critical. Coolant-fed operation keeps the cutting zone clear during deep passes.
Coolant-fed thermals and power
Internal coolant channels deliver fluid directly to the cutting edges, controlling temperature during extended cuts in aluminium. The two-flute design reduces cutting forces compared with three-flute alternatives, lowering spindle load and acoustic output on standard machining centres. Consistent coolant flow prevents built-up edge without extra dwell time.
Replaces conventional 3xD or 5xD non-coolant drills
Shops moving from external-flood or peck-drilling cycles gain cycle-time reductions and tighter hole tolerance. The step up is justified when hole depths exceed three diameters in wrought aluminium and throughput or tool-life gains offset the higher tool cost. Not suited for ferrous materials or interrupted cuts where a tougher substrate is required.

Questions about this item
How is the CDACR1406 Cyclone Drill installed in a coolant-fed machine spindle?
Mount the drill in a compatible coolant-fed holder, align the internal coolant channels with the spindle supply, and torque the holder to the machine builder's specification to prevent leakage.
What maintenance or replacement will the 2-flute aluminum drill need later?
Inspect the cutting edges after each job; resharpen or replace the drill once flank wear reaches the limit that degrades hole finish in aluminum.
What limit appears first during sustained high-feed drilling in aluminum?
Chip evacuation through the 2-flute coolant channels becomes the limiting factor before tool deflection or thermal buildup.
