The M.A. Ford Twister XD 3X is a coolant fed drill bit with an 8.50 mm cutting diameter. The 3X geometry targets high penetration rates in CNC machining centres and rigid lathe setups. Buyers who need a non coolant fed drill or a larger diameter should select a different tool.

Installation and common issues

The drill fits directly into a compatible coolant fed tool holder or spindle interface with matching shank dimensions. Ensure the machine delivers sufficient coolant pressure and flow through the internal channels before starting the cut. A frequent problem is inadequate coolant filtration which blocks the internal passages and causes premature wear or breakage. Incorrect holder runout also reduces hole quality and tool life significantly.

Practical limits of coolant fed drilling

Through coolant drilling requires a machine equipped with high pressure coolant delivery and a sealed holder system to function correctly. Without these the internal channels cannot clear chips effectively and the drill will overheat in deep holes. The 3X flute length restricts maximum drilling depth to approximately three times the diameter in a single pass. Users without high pressure coolant capability cannot exploit the design advantages of this tool.
