Magnetic Weld Angle with Ground
The Mag-Mate magnetic weld angle holds ferrous workpieces at five preset angles including 45, 75, 90, 105 and 135 degrees. A 150 lb maximum pull from rare earth magnets keeps plate up to 1.94 in thick in position during tack welding. The integrated 300 amp ground attachment completes the electrical circuit without a separate clamp.
Practical Limits of Magnetic Holding
Magnetic force drops sharply if rust, paint or an air gap exceeds a fraction of a millimetre between the magnet face and the workpiece. The 150 lb rating assumes clean, flat, low-carbon steel at least 1.9 in thick; thinner or coated material reduces effective pull. Operating temperature must stay below 180 degrees F or the rare earth material can lose strength permanently.
Installation and Common Issues
Switch the magnet on after the angle rests on the joint so the full 150 lb pull engages at once. Debris trapped under the 1.9 in wide base is the usual cause of misalignment; wipe both surfaces before each use. Forgetting to toggle the switch off before lifting the tool leads to dropped workpieces and damaged edges.
