SD/3G-SDI to NDI conversion

The Magewell Pro Convert SDI Plus takes a single SD or 3G-SDI feed with embedded audio and encodes it into an NDI stream. It also provides a loop-through output so the original signal continues to downstream equipment. The unit targets broadcast engineers and live-production crews who need to move SDI sources onto an IP network.

Thermals noise and power

Power and data travel over a USB 2.0 connection while network traffic uses a 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet port. No active cooling is mentioned in the specifications, implying passive thermal management. Typical operation stays quiet enough for studio environments.

Build integration needs

A Mini-DIN-8 PTZ interface allows direct camera control and an SD card slot offers local recording. A 1/4-20 mounting hole lets you secure the converter on a rig or bracket. Buyers who need multi-channel SDI ingest or 4K NDI encoding will need a different device.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the SDI source and what is the step people miss?

Plug the source into the SDI input, connect Ethernet for the NDI stream, then power the unit through the USB 2.0 port; the loop-through output stays active so downstream gear keeps working.

What part will need replacement first under normal use?

The SD card used for local recording or firmware updates is the only consumable component; the converter itself has no moving parts or user-serviceable modules.

What limit appears first during a long live production?

Encoding stops at 1920x1080p60, so sustained 60 fps full HD is the ceiling; the 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet link and USB 2.0 power path remain stable within that bound.
