Film-to-video scanner for Super 8 and 8mm reels

The Magnasonic FS81 converts 3-inch, 5-inch, and 7-inch Super 8 and 8mm film reels into digital MP4 video files. It operates as a standalone unit with a built-in 2.3-inch LCD screen for preview. No computer or external software is required for the scanning process. The package includes a 32GB SD card for direct storage.

Check reel size and output needs before ordering

This scanner accepts only 3-inch, 5-inch, and 7-inch diameter reels of Super 8 or standard 8mm film. It captures video only and does not record audio tracks. Verify that your films are silent or that you do not require sound capture. Ensure you have an RCA-compatible display or a computer with a USB port for file transfer and viewing.

Standalone digitising station with direct save

The unit scans frame-by-frame at a rate of 50 feet in 30 minutes and stores files directly on the included 32GB SD card, holding up to 120 hours of footage. Connect the supplied RCA cable to a TV or monitor for larger playback, or use the USB cable to move MP4 files to a computer for editing or sharing. Adjustments for exposure, RGB, sharpness, and framing are made on the device.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box with the Magnasonic FS81 scanner and do I need to buy anything else to start digitising film?

The package includes the FS81 scanner, a 32 GB SD card, an RCA video-out cable and a USB cable. No extra accessories or computer are required to begin scanning Super 8 or 8 mm reels.

The product mentions 3-inch, 5-inch and 7-inch reel support — which reel sizes can I actually scan with this unit?

The scanner handles all three standard reel diameters: 3", 5" and 7" Super 8 or 8 mm film reels.

The description says up to 120 hours of video on the 32 GB card — what does that mean for real-world scanning time?

The 32 GB card can store roughly 120 hours of digitised MP4 footage. Scanning proceeds at about 50 feet of film every 30 minutes, so total recording time depends on the length of your reels.
