Articulated Arm for Photo and Video

The Manfrotto 196AB-3 is a three-section articulated arm built for photographers and videographers who need to position lights, cameras or accessories in tight or awkward spaces. It supports up to 2.2lbs at full extension and reaches a maximum length of 33.5 inches. The sliding extension system lets you reposition gear smoothly without loosening multiple knobs.

Spigot and Thread Mounting Options

The base of the arm carries a 5/8" spigot that fits the Superclamp system for secure attachment to stands or rigs. That same spigot also includes a 1/4" thread, so you can mount a wide range of brackets, monitors or small lights directly. No camera bracket is included in the box, so you add only the head or adapter your kit requires.

All-Metal Construction and Daily Use

The arm uses an all-metal three-section build that resists flex when loaded near its 2.2lb limit. Its sliding mechanism locks firmly with a single action, preventing drift during long shoots. The 5/8" spigot and 1/4" thread mean you can clamp it to a Superclamp, a light stand or a rigging plate without hunting for extra adapters.

Questions about this item

Will the 5/8" spigot or 1/4" thread need periodic tightening or replacement?

The 5/8" spigot and 1/4" thread are standard mounting interfaces; no scheduled replacement is required, simply check they remain snug after repositioning the arm.

What stops the arm from creeping when a 2.2lbs load is held at the full 33.5" extension?

The three-section sliding extension locks securely at each joint, so the 2.2lbs capacity is maintained at 33.5" without drift.

Does the arm generate any heat or noise during all-day studio use?

The arm is a purely mechanical support with no motor or electronics, so it runs silently and produces no heat.
