Purpose & User

Markal 12219 is a non-hardening pipe thread sealant supplied in an 8 fl oz brush-top can. The gray paste is formulated for general-purpose sealing on metal threads up to 3 in diameter. It suits plumbers, maintenance engineers and HVAC technicians who need a reliable, brush-applied compound for gas or liquid systems.

Pressure & Temperature Limits

The sealant handles gases up to 350 psi and liquids up to 500 psi. Its operating window spans from 0 Degrees F to 350 Degrees F, so it remains effective in both freezing and high-heat environments. NSF and UPC listings confirm compliance with recognised plumbing standards for potable water and gas distribution.

Deciding Specification

The non-hardening cure type is the critical attribute: the paste stays pliable after assembly, allowing future disassembly without damaging threads. Buyers who need a permanently rigid, locking thread compound should choose a different product.

Questions about this item

Which container size should I pick for occasional plumbing jobs?

The 8 fl oz brush-top can gives enough paste for many small repairs without leaving a large leftover container.

What does the 350 psi gas rating mean when I use this on a residential gas line?

It means the cured sealant will hold pressures up to 350 psi for gases, well above typical household supply pressures.

How does the non-hardening cure affect future disassembly of threaded joints?

Because it stays pliable, you can unscrew and re-seal the same threads later without chipping away cured material.
