Everyday bike security
The Master Lock 8143D is a 4 ft braided-steel cable with a vinyl coating that protects frames from scratches. A preset four-digit combination removes the need to carry keys. It suits cyclists who want a lightweight deterrent for quick stops at cafés, campuses or train racks.
Sustained outdoor exposure
The vinyl jacket resists rain and UV while the steel core remains flexible after repeated coiling. The combination mechanism operates without batteries or electronics, so it cannot fail from moisture ingress. Security stays consistent whether the lock is used daily or left locked for weeks.
Vinyl-coated braided steel
The 8 mm diameter cable threads through wheels, frames and fixed objects without kinking. The coating prevents paint damage on contact points and reduces noise while riding. Riders who need to secure multiple bikes or heavy motorbikes should choose a thicker chain or hardened shackle instead.

Questions about this item
Does the 8143D cable lock generate any noise or heat when left securing a bike outdoors all day?
No, the 8143D is a passive mechanical lock with no powered components, so it produces no noise or heat during continuous use.
What mounting hardware or tools do I need to install and use the 8143D cable lock?
None — the lock is a self-contained cable with a built-in combination mechanism; simply wrap the 1.2 m braided steel cable around the bike and a fixed object, then scramble the four-digit code.
Will the 8143D's vinyl coating damage the paint or clear coat on an older steel-frame bicycle?
The protective vinyl coating is designed to prevent scratching, so it will not harm the finish on older frames when the 8 mm cable is secured.
