Outdoor wall sconce for traditional exteriors

The Maxim Mfg. 40424WGOB Carriage House VX is a three-light outdoor wall lantern finished in oriental bronze with water glass shades. It is built for porches, decks or garage entries where a classic early American style is desired. The fixture measures 27 inches high by 13 inches wide and uses three candelabra-base 60-watt incandescent bulbs for a total of 120 watts. It is UL listed for hardwire installation in wet locations.

Vivex construction handles weather exposure

The housing is made from Vivex, a composite material described as twice the strength of resin that is non-corrosive and UV resistant. This construction helps the sconce maintain its finish and structural integrity through seasonal temperature changes, rain and direct sunlight without the degradation common to standard resin or plastic fixtures. The 3-year limited warranty on the material reflects this durability expectation.

Hardwire mounting with dimmable candelabra sockets

Installation requires a hardwire connection to a junction box suitable for wet locations, so the sconce is a permanent part of the exterior electrical system. The three candelabra-base sockets accept standard 60-watt incandescent lamps and work with a regular incandescent dimmer for adjustable light levels. Buyers who need a plug-in or battery-operated fixture, or who prefer integrated LED modules, will need a different product type.

Questions about this item

Does the 120-watt total rating mean the Oriental Bronze sconce runs hot on a covered porch all evening?

The fixture uses three 60-watt candelabra-base incandescent bulbs for 120 watts total; the Vivex body is non-corrosive and UV-resistant, and the unit is UL listed for wet locations, so it handles outdoor heat and moisture as designed.

What wiring and bulbs must I already have to install the 27-inch Carriage House VX sconce?

You need a hard-wire junction box at the mounting point and three candelabra-base (E12) incandescent bulbs up to 60 watts each; a standard incandescent dimmer is compatible if you want dimming.

Will the 13-inch wide water-glass shade match the early-American lanterns already on my garage?

The sconce measures 26.5 inches tall by 12.5 inches wide with an oriental bronze finish and water glass panels, matching the traditional Carriage House VX style used on porches, decks and garages for a consistent early-American look.
