What the Formula 6.5″ speaker is

The MB Quart Formula 6.5″ 2-way coaxial speaker is a direct-fit upgrade for factory 6.5″ locations. It handles 60 watts RMS and 120 watts peak with a 4-ohm impedance, making it compatible with most aftermarket head units and amplifiers.

How it fits a car-audio build

The speaker requires a 5.59″ cut-out and 2.13″ mounting depth behind the panel, with a 7.01″ outside diameter for the grille. Its built-in crossover at 4 kHz with a 12 dB slope means no external passive network is needed, freeing up space and wiring time.

Capacity and headroom

The 40 Hz – 22 kHz frequency response and 88 dB sensitivity deliver full-range output from modest power. At 60 watts RMS the cone stays composed; beyond 120 watts peak the driver reaches its thermal and mechanical limits, so higher-output systems should add dedicated subwoofers for deep bass.

Questions about this item

How much continuous power can the 6.5" Formula speakers handle before thermal compression limits output?

The RMS rating is 60 watts, so sustained programme material above that level will reach the thermal limit of the voice coil.

What temperature rise or fan noise should I expect when the speakers run at high output all day?

Passive drivers have no fan; heat dissipates through the vented pole piece and basket, so there is no audible noise from cooling.

Which amplifier impedance and crossover settings are required for these 4-ohm coaxial speakers?

Use an amplifier stable at 4 ohms and set the high-pass filter near the 4 kHz crossover point with a 12 dB per octave slope.
