KeelGuard 6' Sand Boat Protector

The Megaware KeelGuard is a six-foot, self-adhesive strip designed to shield a boat's keel from abrasion caused by sand, rocks and launch ramps. A polymer-urethane blend and pressure-sensitive adhesive bond the contoured edges permanently to the hull. Angled grooves create hydrodynamic channels that reduce drag while protecting the gelcoat finish.

DIY Owners Seeking Keel Abrasion Resistance

This protector suits boat owners who want a do-it-yourself solution against wear from beaching or ramp use. It is not intended for buyers who need protection along the full hull length or for those requiring a product rated for continuous high-speed impact zones.

Simple Peel-and-Stick Application

Installation relies on the built-in pressure-sensitive adhesive; the contoured edges are designed to seal without extra hardware. The most common issue is insufficient surface preparation, which can prevent the adhesive from bonding securely to the gelcoat.

Questions about this item

What type of boat hull surface is needed for the pressure-sensitive adhesive to bond the KeelGuard protector?

The adhesive permanently bonds and seals the contoured edges to the hull surface, so the area must be clean, dry, and structurally sound for proper adhesion.

Will the hydrodynamic channels and air pockets created by the angled grooves increase drag on my existing hull?

The angled grooves produce hydrodynamic channels that create air pockets for a slicker surface, designed to maintain performance without adding drag to the hull.

How can I confirm the KeelGuard is correctly installed and protecting the keel after application?

Verify the contoured edges are fully sealed to the hull with no gaps, the protector lies flat along the keel line, and the angled grooves align with water flow for hydrodynamic function.
