  • PCI Express x16 internal interface fits standard server slots
  • Aqua green colour aids quick visual identification in dense racks

Mellanox Connect-IB Dual-Port Adapter

This Mellanox Connect-IB adapter provides two QSFP+ ports for 56 GB InfiniBand connectivity. It installs into a PCI Express x16 slot and is suited for high-throughput cluster or storage networks. The aqua-green bracket distinguishes the OEM IBM 98Y8995 variant.

Ideal for HPC and storage clusters

Buyers building or expanding InfiniBand fabrics at 56 GB per port will match this card to existing Connect-IB gear. It is not for Ethernet-only networks, single-port upgrades, or systems lacking a full-length PCIe x16 slot.

Simple PCIe x16 installation

The half-height bracket fits standard server chassis and locks into a PCI Express x16 lane. Common issues include missing QSFP+ transceivers or cables, and driver mismatch if the OS kernel lacks Connect-IB support.

Questions about this item

Does the CB194A need a free PCI Express x16 slot to install?

Yes, the adapter uses a PCI Express x16 internal interface, so the host system must provide an available x16 slot for the card to seat and operate.

Will the two QSFP+ ports on this adapter link to older InfiniBand switches that only support lower speeds?

The card presents two QSFP+ external interfaces; they will negotiate down to the highest speed both ends support, allowing connection to legacy InfiniBand fabric.

How can I confirm the adapter is running at its 56 GB maximum data rate after installation?

Check the link status in the operating system or fabric manager — it should report a 56 GB active rate on each QSFP+ port when cables and switch ports are also rated for that speed.
