Mellanox Technologies MCX354A-FCBT ConnectX-3 40 Gbps PCIe 3.0 Low Profile accessory

SKU CH-F97Y-CXY53 MPN MCX354A-FCBT

A 40 Gbps dual-port Infiniband network card with QSFP+ connectors for PCIe 3.0 low-profile slots

  • 40 Gbps throughput via dual QSFP+ ports
  • PCIe 3.0 x8 host interface for high bandwidth
  • Low-profile bracket fits compact servers
  • ConnectX-3 controller handles 40 Gbps FDR InfiniBand
  • Mellanox MCX354A-FCBT dual-port network adapter

ConnectX-3 40 Gbps dual-port adapter

This Mellanox ConnectX-3 card delivers two QSFP+ ports running at up to 40 Gbps over PCI Express 3.0. It targets server and workstation builders who need high-throughput InfiniBand connectivity in a compact slot. The low-profile bracket allows installation in space-constrained chassis.

Dual QSFP+ ports enable link redundancy

Two physical ports let administrators configure link aggregation or failover without adding a second card. Each port accepts standard QSFP+ transceivers or direct-attach cables, so cabling choices remain flexible. No proprietary connectors or licensing dongles are required for basic operation.

PCIe 3.0 x8 electrical limits peak throughput

The host interface caps bidirectional bandwidth at the PCIe 3.0 x8 rate, so sustained 40 Gbps per port cannot be exceeded. Older PCIe 2.0 slots will further reduce available bandwidth. The card does not support Ethernet protocols, restricting use to InfiniBand fabrics.

Questions about this item

What component on the dual-port MCX354A-FCBT is most likely to need replacement first?

The QSFP+ transceiver modules inserted into the card's two ports are the parts most often swapped when links degrade or speeds change.

Which limit appears first when the ConnectX-3 runs at 40 Gbps continuously?

The PCI Express 3.0 x8 host interface caps sustained throughput at the bus maximum before the adapter itself saturates.

How much extra heat does the low-profile MCX354A-FCBT add to a chassis running all day?

The card draws its power through the PCIe slot, so its thermal contribution equals the slot's rated envelope and is handled by the server's existing airflow.
