Active optical cable carries 200 Gb/s InfiniBand HDR or 200 GbE over QSFP56 connectors for 3 metres
This Mellanox active optical cable delivers up to 200 Gb/s over a three-metre reach using QSFP56 connectors. It supports VPI InfiniBand HDR and 200 Gigabit Ethernet links in high-performance compute and storage clusters. The assembly is built for dense rack environments where copper reach is insufficient.
Each end terminates in a standard QSFP56 module that plugs directly into compatible switch or adapter ports without separate transceivers. The active optical construction eliminates the bulk and bend-radius limits of copper DACs while keeping the same hot-pluggable form factor. Cable routing stays simple in fully populated racks.
On-board optics draw minimal power from the host port, reducing thermal load compared with discrete transceiver pairs. The cable operates within standard QSFP56 power envelopes so no extra cooling is required. Quiet, fan-less operation is inherent because no active cooling components are present.

The QSFP56 connectors are rated for up to 200 Gb/s operation with InfiniBand HDR and 200 GbE.
Each end uses a standard QSFP56 module profile; allow enough rack depth for the connector body and the cable bend radius.
Insert both QSFP56 ends until they latch, then remove the protective dust caps; forgetting to remove the caps blocks the optical path.
