Vehicle-specific radio integration

The Metra Electronics AXTC-VW1 is a steering-wheel-control and data interface built for select Volkswagen models produced between 2002 and 2017. It allows an aftermarket head unit to communicate with the factory CAN bus so that original steering-wheel buttons remain functional. The module also supplies a 12-volt 10-amp accessory power output and a 12-volt illumination lead for the new radio.

Replaces factory radio integration

When the original head unit is removed, this interface retains retained accessory power (R.A.P.), balance and fade settings, and navigation outputs that would otherwise be lost. It works with both amplified and non-amplified factory audio systems, making the upgrade worthwhile for owners who want a modern head unit without rewiring the entire vehicle. Vehicles outside the listed Volkswagen range or model years are not supported.

Stable operation over time

The interface uses auto-detect technology to identify the vehicle and radio connection during installation, then stores the configuration in non-volatile memory so settings survive battery disconnection or module removal.
