Midspan Power Delivery

The MICROCHIP POE PD-9506GC/AC-US is a six-port Power over Ethernet midspan injector. It delivers up to 60 watts per port under the IEEE 802.3bt standard while maintaining compatibility with legacy 802.3af and 802.3at devices. The unit accepts 120 V AC or 230 V AC input and fits a standard 1U rack space.

Suitable Applications and Limits

This midspan suits installers powering wireless access points, pan-tilt-zoom cameras, dome cameras, IP videophones, thin clients or other high-power Ethernet terminals from a central rack. It is not for networks that require managed switching features such as VLANs, link aggregation or SNMP monitoring. Buyers needing data switching intelligence should look at a managed switch instead.

Deciding Specification

The single figure that decides fit is the 60-watt maximum output power per port. If the connected endpoints draw more than this limit, the midspan cannot supply them and a higher-power injector or switch is required.
