What this product is

The microMICR MICRTHN80A is a new, single-pack black toner cartridge that contains magnetic image character-recognition (MICR) toner. It is built as a compatible replacement for the HP CF280A and is designed for businesses that print their own checks or other negotiable documents requiring MICR encoding.

What the MICR toner changes

Standard toner lacks the magnetic particles that banking equipment reads; this cartridge supplies them so checks meet clearing-house standards. The smart print cartridge is estimated to yield approximately 2,700 pages at 5 percent coverage, giving a measurable page-count reference for budgeting check-printing runs.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Suits offices using HP LaserJet Pro 400, M401 or M425 series printers that need secure, bank-readable check output. Not for buyers who only print standard documents and do not require MICR functionality, or for environments that need higher-yield cartridges for volume printing beyond the rated yield.
