30.72TB enterprise NVMe SSD with PCIe 4.0 x4, 6800 MB/s read, 5000 MB/s write, and TCG Opal 2.01 encryption
The Micron 6500 ION is a 30.72TB enterprise SSD built for read-intensive workloads in servers and storage arrays. It uses a 2.5 inch U.3 form factor with a PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe interface and 3D NAND TLC flash. Hardware-based encryption with SHA-512 and TCG Opal 2.01 protects data at rest.
This drive targets applications such as content delivery, analytics and warm storage where sequential reads reach 6800 MBps and random reads hit 1,000,000 IOPS. Write endurance is lower at 200,000 random write IOPS and 5000 MBps sequential, so it is not suited for write-intensive databases, logging or primary boot volumes.
The single specification that decides fit is the 30.72TB capacity delivered in a 15mm high 2.5 inch U.3 package. Systems must provide a U.3 backplane with PCIe 4.0 x4 electricals and physical clearance for the 15mm z-height; otherwise the drive cannot be installed or will fall back to slower speeds.

Yes, the U.3 interface is electrically compatible with U.2 backplanes, so the 2.5-inch 15 mm drive will seat and operate without an adapter.
Use a TCG Opal management tool such as sedutil-cli or the vendor utility to query the drive; it will report the encryption state and confirm the SHA-512 engine is engaged.
The drive ships as a bare 15 mm 2.5-inch U.3 module; any heatsink, carrier or bracket required by your server chassis must be sourced separately.
