Purpose-built midspan

The Microsemi PD-9512G/ACDC/M is a twelve-port Gigabit Power over Ethernet midspan that delivers up to 72 W per port over all four pairs of Cat 5 or better cabling. It adds PoE capability to an existing non-PoE network switch so that IP cameras, access-control units, thin clients and other powered devices receive both data and power through a single Ethernet cable.

Upgrade path and fit

The unit replaces two-pair midspans or PoE switches that are limited to 25.5 W per port and dissipate roughly twice as much power on each link. The efficiency gain becomes worthwhile when the deployment includes high-power terminals that need up to 51 W or when a large installed base of standard-compliant devices would benefit from the 3 W per link reduction in losses.

Sustained-load behaviour

Energy Efficient PoE technology cuts dissipation by 50 percent compared with conventional two-pair solutions, so the chassis runs cooler during continuous full-load operation across all twelve ports. Remote management through PowerView Pro uses SNMPv3 over IPv4 and IPv6, allowing administrators to monitor port power draw and health without on-site visits.
