Ready-to-go Windows ultraportable

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 ships with Windows 11 Home, a 13.5-inch IPS touchscreen running at 2256 x 1504, an Intel Core i5-1235U processor with 10 cores and 12 MB cache, 8 GB of DDR5 memory and a 512 GB PCIe SSD. It targets students and mobile professionals who need a thin, light notebook that works straight from the box.

Upgrade from older 8 GB ultraportables

Buyers replacing a slower 8 GB laptop with mechanical storage or an earlier dual-core chip will feel the jump to 10 cores, DDR5 bandwidth and PCIe speeds most in browser-heavy workflows and light creative tasks. The lift is less noticeable if the current machine already has a quad-core 11th-generation processor and a fast SSD.

Check memory ceiling and port mix

The system maxes out at 16 GB with two slots, so 8 GB is the practical floor for future headroom. Verify that the available USB-C and USB-A ports cover your peripherals and external displays before ordering.
