Machine Screw Nut #4-40

The Midwest Fastener Corp 62148 is a hex nut designed to secure the threaded portion of machine screws and bolts. It suits maintenance technicians, assembly workers and hobbyists who need a reliable Grade 2 steel fastener for general-purpose fastening tasks.

#4-40 thread specification

The nut features a #4-40 thread pitch that must match the screw or bolt exactly for a secure fit. Selecting the correct thread size is the single specification that determines whether this component will work in your application.

Zinc-plated steel construction

The Grade 2 steel body with zinc plating provides corrosion resistance for indoor and light outdoor use. It requires a matching #4-40 machine screw or bolt and a compatible wrench or socket for installation, freeing you from sourcing specialised drive tools.

Questions about this item

What does the #4-40 thread size mean when I am matching it to a screw?

The #4-40 designation indicates a number 4 diameter with 40 threads per inch, so it will only fit a matching #4-40 machine screw or bolt.

How does the Grade 2 steel rating affect the holding strength of these nuts?

Grade 2 steel provides standard tensile strength for general-purpose fastening and is suitable for non-critical joints where high clamping force is not required.

What clearance do I need for a wrench to turn these hex nuts?

The hex profile requires a wrench or socket that matches the across-flats dimension of a #4 hex nut for proper installation and removal.
