Pack of 70 zinc-plated steel cotter pins for securing bolts and shafts
This pack contains 70 zinc plated steel cotter pins measuring 3/32" x 1-1/2". They suit mechanics and DIYers who need a bulk supply of split pins for securing castellated nuts, clevis pins or drilled shafts on automotive, agricultural or general machinery assemblies.
A cotter pin works only where a drilled hole exists through the bolt or shaft and a castle nut or similar retainer is present. The soft steel tines deform during installation so the pin cannot be reused reliably. The 3/32" diameter restricts use to matching hole sizes; larger or smaller bores require different pin diameters.
Insert the pin through the hole, spread the tines with pliers and bend them back against the nut flats. The most frequent error is bending only one tine or leaving the ends too long, which can snag on moving parts. Reusing a pin after removal often causes the metal to fatigue and shear under vibration.
