USB A to USB A 3.0 cable for peripherals

This male-to-male cable connects a USB 3.0 Type A peripheral such as a hard-drive enclosure, laptop cooler, KVM switch or DVD player to a computer. The 2 ft length keeps the link short and tidy for desktop setups. Two cables are included in the pack.

Builders needing a short data link for USB A devices

Suitable for users who want a 5 Gbps connection between a single USB A peripheral and a host port. The cable does not carry video signals and cannot charge devices. It also cannot link two computers directly, so buyers who need host-to-host transfer or display output should look elsewhere.

5 Gbps USB 3.0 data rate with backward compatibility

The cord supports USB 3.0 transfer speeds of 5 Gbps and falls back to USB 2.0 when required. Gold-plated connectors, bare copper conductors, foil and braid shielding and a nylon-braided jacket rated for 20 000 bends maintain signal integrity. No driver installation is needed.

Questions about this item

Does the 2-pack include everything needed to connect a USB 3.0 hard-drive enclosure to a laptop, or must I buy anything else?

The 2-pack supplies two 2 ft USB A-to-A cables with gold-plated connectors and nylon-braided jackets; no extra adapters or drivers are required for standard USB 3.0 peripherals.

Both cables are the same 2 ft length — how do I decide which one to use for a laptop cooler versus a desktop hub?

Use the cable that reaches the port without tension; the 2 ft length suits coolers close to the laptop and hubs on a desk, but check the cooler-to-port distance before choosing.

The cable is rated for 5 Gbps USB 3.0 — what transfer speed should I expect when copying large files to an external SSD?

Real-world throughput depends on the drive and host controller, but the cable’s 5 Gbps spec and foil-and-braid shielding are designed to sustain near-peak USB 3.0 performance during large-file transfers.
