CMP-Rated 4-Conductor 18AWG Speaker Wire

Monoprice 113735 is a 500-foot plenum-rated speaker cable built for in-wall and commercial air-space installations. Four 18AWG oxygen-free copper conductors carry stereo pairs or bi-wire runs through a single jacket. The UL CMP rating certifies the jacket for use in plenum ducts of commercial buildings. Lifetime warranty backs the cable.

Verify Plenum Requirements and Conductor Count

Confirm local codes require CMP-rated cable for the intended air-handling spaces before purchase. Ensure the four-conductor layout matches your speaker wiring plan, whether for stereo pairs or bi-wiring. Measure the longest run to confirm 152.4 metres covers the distance with slack for terminations. Check that 18AWG gauge suits the amplifier power and cable length for your system.

Upgrade From Non-Plenum or Two-Conductor Cable

This cable replaces standard riser-rated or non-rated speaker wire when fire code demands plenum safety. It also replaces two-conductor wire when a single pull must feed two speakers or a bi-wireable pair. The jump is worth it when building inspectors require CMP rating or when pulling one four-conductor cable saves labour over multiple two-conductor runs.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and do I need to buy connectors separately?

The box contains a 500 ft spool of 4-conductor 18 AWG CMP-rated speaker wire with color-coded inner jackets. No connectors are included, so you will need to purchase banana plugs, spade lugs, or other terminations separately.

Which gauge and length should I choose for a typical home-theatre run?

This listing is the 18 AWG, 500 ft (152.4 m) version. Monoprice also offers 12, 14, and 16 AWG gauges and 50, 100, and 250 ft lengths; choose a thicker gauge for longer runs or higher power.

What does the CMP plenum rating mean once the cable is installed in a ceiling cavity?

The CMP rating confirms the jacket meets UL fire-safety standards for plenum airspaces, so the cable can be run in commercial drop-ceilings or residential duct spaces without additional conduit.
