75 ft Toslink Optical Audio Cable

This new Monoprice 3448 cable carries S/PDIF optical signals over a 75 foot distance. It uses full-sized Toslink connectors on both ends to transmit uncompressed two-channel PCM or compressed 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound. The 8.0 mm diameter cable is wrapped in a metal mesh jacket with metal connector heads for physical protection. It connects devices such as game consoles, disc players and home-theatre receivers.

Suitable for long runs between fixed equipment

The 75 foot length suits installations where source and amplifier are far apart, such as whole-room surround systems or projector setups. The heavy mesh jacket resists nicks and kinks during routing through walls or conduit. Buyers needing a short desktop link or a portable cable for mobile gear should look at something else, as the length and stiff jacket add bulk. This cable carries only audio, so it cannot replace an HDMI or video connection.

75 foot length decides the application

The single specification that determines fit is the 75 foot length; it sets the maximum separation between your optical audio source and the decoder. If your equipment sits closer, the extra cable must be coiled and managed. If the gap is wider, this cable will not reach. No other dimension or rating in the data changes this basic requirement.

Questions about this item

Does the 75 ft Toslink cable ship with both ends terminated, or do I need to buy connectors separately?

The cable arrives with a full-sized Toslink male connector on each end, so no extra connectors are required.

The listing shows a single 75 ft length — how do I know this is the right choice for my setup?

Choose the 75 ft model when the source and receiver are far apart, such as a projector at the back of a room and an AV rack at the front; shorter runs should use a shorter cable to avoid excess slack.

What audio formats will actually pass through this 8.0 mm cable once it is connected?

It carries uncompressed 2-channel PCM and compressed multichannel formats including Dolby 5.1, Dolby 7.1 and DTS 5.1 over the optical S/PDIF link.
