Product Purpose

The Monoprice 5296 is a one-foot power extension cord built with 16AWG conductors and NEMA 5-15P to NEMA 5-15R connectors. It suits installers who need a short reach to bridge a gap between a device plug and a wall outlet.

Sustained Load Behaviour

The cable is rated for 13 amps continuous current at 125 volts, using high-quality copper wire to maintain stable delivery. Its 16AWG gauge handles the specified load without voltage drop over the short length.

Thermals Noise and Power Draw

Passive construction means no fan noise or active cooling is involved during operation. The sturdy three-prong connectors ensure a secure fit that resists heat buildup at the contact points under normal 13-amp use.

Questions about this item

Does the 16 AWG cord stay cool when it runs at the full 13 A rating all day?

The 16 AWG conductors are rated for 13 A continuous use at 125 V, so normal full-load operation will not cause overheating.

What must I already have to use this NEMA 5-15P to NEMA 5-15R extension?

You need a standard NEMA 5-15 wall outlet and a device with a matching NEMA 5-15 plug; the cord simply bridges the two.

Will the 1 ft length work with my older equipment that has a standard three-prong plug?

Yes, the NEMA 5-15R female end accepts any legacy three-prong plug, and the NEMA 5-15P male end fits older grounded outlets.
