Core hardware and target user

The MSI Crosshair 18 is an 18.0 inch gaming laptop built around an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX 24-core processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 8GB GDDR7 memory. It ships with 64GB DDR5 memory and a 2TB PCIe SSD, running Windows 11 Home on a 2560 x 1600 IPS panel at 240Hz.

Who fits and who does not

The 24-thread CPU and high-refresh QHD+ screen suit competitive gamers and creators who need fast frame rates and colour accuracy in a large chassis. Buyers who prioritise thin-and-light portability or a touchscreen should look elsewhere because the system weighs 6.83 pounds and the display is non-touch.

Deciding specification

The single figure that decides fit is the 240Hz refresh rate on the 18.0 inch 2560 x 1600 panel; if your workflow or games benefit from that motion clarity the laptop matches, otherwise a lower-refresh model may be more appropriate.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2TB PCIe SSD into the 18 QHD+ 240Hz laptop, and which step is often missed?

The 2TB PCIe SSD is already fitted by the engineers before shipment. The step buyers often miss is confirming the drive appears in the BIOS boot order after first power-on.

What maintenance will the 64GB DDR5 memory and RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 graphics need later?

No user-serviceable maintenance is required for the soldered 64GB DDR5 or the RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7. Keep vents clear and update GPU drivers through Windows Update.

Which limit appears first on the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX during sustained 5.4 GHz loads?

The 24-core 275HX hits its thermal ceiling first under prolonged 5.4 GHz turbo, causing the firmware to throttle clocks to manage temperature.
