15.6 inch 144 Hz gaming laptop

The MSI Katana 15 combines a 15.6 inch FHD display running at 144 Hz with an Intel Core i7 14650HX processor featuring 16 cores and 24 threads. It includes an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 GPU with 8 GB GDDR7 video memory, 32 GB DDR5 4800 RAM, and a 4 TB PCIe SSD. Windows 11 Pro and Office 2021 are pre-installed.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This laptop suits users who need high core counts for multitasking and a fast refresh rate for competitive gaming. The 4 TB drive supports large game libraries and media projects without external storage. Buyers needing a touchscreen, an SD card reader, or a lighter chassis under 5.29 pounds should consider other models.

The spec that decides fit

The RTX 5050 with 8 GB GDDR7 determines whether this machine meets your graphics workload. It drives the 144 Hz panel in modern titles and handles GPU-accelerated creative tasks. If your applications require more video memory or a higher GPU tier, this configuration will not match those requirements.

Questions about this item

What are the exact chassis dimensions of the Katana 15?

The chassis measures 14.13 x 10.31 x .99 inches and weighs 5.29 pounds, so verify your bag or sleeve fits a 15.6 inch frame of that thickness.

How do I add more storage, and which screw do people forget?

Remove the bottom panel screws, lift the panel, insert an additional M.2 PCIe SSD into the open slot at a 30-degree angle, then secure it with the tiny mounting screw — that screw is the one most often dropped.

When will the DDR5 memory need replacement?

The 32 GB DDR5 4800 modules are soldered and not user-replaceable; plan on keeping the original memory for the laptop's usable life.
