15.6-inch QHD 165Hz gaming laptop

The MSI Katana 15.6-inch QHD 165Hz gaming laptop pairs a 2560 x 1440 IPS panel with an Intel Core i7-14650HX processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 GPU. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR5 memory and a 1 TB NVMe SSD back the platform. Windows 11 Home ships pre-installed in a black chassis released in 2025.

Upgrade path from older 1080p machines

Moving from a 1080p 60 Hz panel to the 1440p 165 Hz display sharpens detail and smooths motion in competitive titles. The i7-14650HX and RTX 5070 combination lifts frame rates in modern AAA games compared with previous-generation mobile GPUs. The jump is worth it when you need higher refresh rates and ray-tracing headroom without switching to a desktop.

Straightforward memory and storage access

The bottom cover removes with standard screws to expose the DDR5 SO-DIMM slots and the NVMe drive bay. Applying even pressure when seating memory modules prevents cold-boot issues. Reinstalling the cover without pinching cables avoids Wi-Fi antenna damage. A clean Windows 11 Home install on the fresh SSD eliminates bloatware before first use.

Questions about this item

What physical space does the 15.6 inch chassis need for airflow?

The 15.6 inch chassis requires clear space around the rear and side vents so the i7-14650HX and RTX 5070 can exhaust heat without recirculation.

How is the 1 TB NVMe drive installed, and what step is often missed?

The 1 TB NVMe drive is factory-fitted in the M.2 slot; the step users miss is enabling the drive in Windows Disk Management before it appears in File Explorer.

When will the 16 GB DDR5 memory need an upgrade?

The 16 GB DDR5 memory will need an upgrade when newer titles or creative workloads consistently exceed the installed capacity and cause paging to the SSD.
