Socket and Chipset
The MSI PRO Z790-P WIFI is an ATX motherboard built on the Intel Z790 chipset for LGA 1700 processors. It supports 12th and 13th Gen Intel Core, Pentium Gold and Celeron CPUs. Four DDR5 slots accept up to 192 GB of memory in dual-channel mode.
Thermals and Power
Extended PWM heatsinks and M.2 Shield FROZR cooling cover the power delivery and the M.2 slots. The board draws power through standard ATX and CPU connectors to feed the CPU and up to four M.2 devices. Fan headers allow active airflow across the heatsinks when loads increase.
Memory Speed Limit
The single spec that decides fit is the maximum DDR5 overclock ceiling. With one single-rank DIMM per channel the board can reach 7000+ MHz, while two DIMMs per channel top out at 5600+ MHz. Choose this board only if your memory kit and CPU combination can run within those validated limits.
How it compares

Questions about this item
How do I mount the CPU in the LGA 1700 socket without bending pins?
Align the triangle on the processor with the socket marker, lower it straight down without force, then close the retention lever fully — the spring-loaded frame does the clamping.
Which parts of the M.2 Shield FROZR or VRM heatsink need thermal-pad replacement over time?
The thermal pads on the M.2 Shield FROZR and the extended PWM heatsink may harden after several years; replace them with 1 mm pads when temperatures rise.
At what DDR5 speed does the memory controller hit its ceiling with four populated slots?
With four dual-rank modules installed the official limit is 5600 MHz; pushing beyond that requires manual voltage tuning and may not remain stable.
