Mini-ITX Z77 board for LGA 1155

The MSI Z77IA-E51 fits a Mini-ITX chassis and accepts third-generation Intel Core i7, i5, i3, Pentium or Celeron processors in an LGA 1155 socket. The Intel Z77 chipset provides native PCIe 3.0 support for a single x16 graphics card. Dual-channel DDR3 memory runs at speeds from 1066 up to 2800 MHz with a 16 GB ceiling.

Bundled I/O shield and single SATA cable

A chassis back-panel plate and one SATA cable ship in the box so the board can be mounted and a drive connected without extra purchases. A CMOS battery is also included to maintain firmware settings. No Wi-Fi antenna is supplied because the board lacks an onboard wireless module.

Compact layout with dual gigabit LAN

Two Realtek 8111E controllers give two 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports for redundant or segregated networking. The Realtek ALC892 codec delivers 8.1-channel audio with Azalia 1.0 compliance and automatic jack detection. Rear USB 3.0 ports and an internal USB 3.0 header provide fast peripheral connectivity, while two SATA III, two SATA II and one mSATA connector cover storage needs.

Questions about this item

Will the CMOS battery on this Z77IA-E51 board need replacing, and how often?

The board ships with a CMOS battery included; typical coin-cell life is several years before a replacement is required.

What limits sustained performance first on the Z77IA-E51 — the VRM or the single PCIe 3.0 x16 slot bandwidth?

With only one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, graphics or accelerator throughput caps before the VRM on this Mini-ITX layout.

How loud and hot does the Realtek 8111E dual LAN and ALC892 audio run during all-day operation?

Both controllers are low-power integrated chips; they add negligible heat or fan noise under continuous load.
