Dell PowerEdge R6615 DDR5 RDIMM kit

This 128 GB kit contains two 64 GB DDR5 modules built for the Dell PowerEdge R6615 rack server. Each module is a registered ECC RDIMM that runs at 5600 MT/s with a CL46 latency and 1.1 V operating voltage. The dual-rank 2Rx4 organisation uses major OEM DRAM from Samsung, Micron or Hynix. The kit is new and validated for the target platform.

Registered ECC DDR5 at 5600 MT/s

Registered ECC RDIMMs add a register between the DRAM and the memory controller, which reduces electrical load and allows higher capacities per channel. The trade-off is one extra clock cycle of latency compared with unbuffered modules. The 5600 MT/s data rate delivers 44 800 MB/s peak bandwidth per module, but actual throughput depends on the server memory controller configuration and populated DIMM slots.

Upgrade from lower-capacity DDR5 RDIMMs

Replacing smaller DDR5 RDIMMs with this 2 x 64 GB kit doubles capacity per slot, which helps memory-bound workloads such as virtualization, in-memory databases and AI inference. The jump is worthwhile when the server CPU and chipset support 64 GB dual-rank modules and the application working set exceeds the current installed memory. Systems already populated with 64 GB RDIMMs gain no capacity increase from this kit.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 128GB kit with two 64GB modules or a different capacity for my Dell PowerEdge R6615?

The kit provides 128GB total using two 64GB DDR5 5600 RDIMMs. Each module is 2Rx4 registered ECC at 1.10V, so capacity scales in matched pairs for this server platform.

What does the DDR5 5600 rating mean for actual throughput in the R6615?

DDR5 5600 (PC5-44800) delivers up to 5600 MT/s per module. With two registered ECC DIMMs installed, the server can utilise dual-channel bandwidth at that speed for memory-intensive workloads.

How does the 288-pin DDR5 RDIMM interface limit compatibility with other systems?

The 288-pin DDR5 RDIMM form factor fits only DDR5 registered DIMM slots. It is keyed differently from UDIMM or SO-DIMM modules and requires a platform that supports registered ECC memory.
