Eight-port Gigabit switch with VLAN, QoS and web-based management for segmented networks
The Netgear GS308E-400NAS is an 8-port Gigabit Ethernet switch with Easy Smart Managed Essentials features. It provides web-based and PC-utility management for VLAN segmentation, QoS prioritisation, loop detection and port mirroring. The fanless metal chassis operates silently on a 12 V external adapter consuming 3.7 W. It is built for small offices or home networks that need basic traffic control without the complexity of a fully managed layer-3 appliance.
This switch suits installers who need eight gigabit copper ports, VLAN support and simple QoS in a silent desktop or wall-mounted form factor. It is not for networks that require Power over Ethernet for access points or IP phones. It is not for environments that demand 10 GbE uplinks, stacking, CLI access or advanced layer-3 routing protocols. Buyers needing PoE, higher port density or command-line management should consider other models.
The defining specification is the fanless design, which guarantees completely silent operation in noise-sensitive rooms such as home offices, studios or bedrooms. The unit draws a maximum of 3.7 W from its included 12 V power adapter and supports jumbo frames up to 9 KB. If absolute silence is not a requirement, a fan-cooled switch with deeper feature sets may offer better value for the same port count.

The 192 KB buffer is internal solid-state memory with no moving parts and requires no maintenance or replacement.
The 3.7 W power ceiling and 40 °C operating temperature limit are reached before the 192 KB buffer fills under sustained full-speed traffic.
The switch runs silently with no fan, draws 3.7 W maximum, and stays within its 0 °C to 40 °C operating range on a desk without active cooling.
