Nikon 300mm f/4E PF ED VR Lens

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/4E PF ED VR is a 300mm prime lens with a constant f/4 maximum aperture for Nikon F-mount DSLR cameras. It uses a Phase Fresnel element to reduce size and weight compared to conventional designs. Vibration Reduction helps minimise blur from camera shake. The electromagnetic diaphragm ensures consistent exposure control during high-speed shooting.

Wildlife and sports shooters needing reach

This lens suits photographers who need a 300mm focal length with a bright f/4 aperture for low light and shallow depth of field. The Silent Wave Motor provides fast, quiet autofocus with full-time manual override. Builders who need a second card slot or buyers who want more storage should look elsewhere. It is not for users requiring zoom flexibility or focal lengths beyond 300mm.

300mm fixed focal length

The single specification that decides fit is the 300mm fixed focal length combined with the f/4 maximum aperture. This determines the angle of view and light-gathering ability for distant subjects. The aperture range extends to f/32. No other focal length or aperture combination is available on this model.

Questions about this item

How does the 300mm focal length behave on a full-frame DSLR?

On a full-frame DSLR the 300mm focal length gives a genuine 300mm angle of view, ideal for wildlife and sports where you need to bring distant subjects closer without cropping.

What does the Nikon F mount limit in daily use?

The Nikon F mount works on all F-mount DSLRs, but the electromagnetic diaphragm needs a camera that supports E-type lenses for full aperture control; older bodies may lose auto-exposure or autofocus.

How much space does the lens need in a bag or on a tripod?

The Phase Fresnel design makes this 300mm f/4 notably shorter and lighter than older 300mm f/4 lenses, so it fits in a mid-size telephoto compartment and balances well on a standard tripod collar.
