Full-frame 24.3MP FX-format DSLR body

The Nikon D610 body delivers a 24.3-megapixel FX-format CMOS sensor paired with the EXPEED 3 image processor for high-resolution stills and Full HD 1080p video at 30 frames per second. A 3.2-inch LCD monitor provides live view and playback. The Multi-CAM 4800 autofocus module offers 39 focus points with 3D-tracking capability. Continuous shooting reaches 6 frames per second. The pentaprism viewfinder gives 100 percent coverage in FX format and 97 percent in DX format with 0.70x magnification.

Upgrade from 5.5fps D600 or DX-format bodies

The D610 replaces the earlier D600 by increasing continuous shooting speed from 5.5 to 6.0 frames per second while retaining the same 24.3MP FX sensor and ISO range of 100 to 6400 with extended settings down to 50 and up to 25,600. Photographers moving from a DX-format camera gain the larger 35.9 by 24.0 millimetre sensor area and full 100 percent viewfinder coverage. The jump is worth it when faster burst rates and the wider FX field of view matter for action or low-light work. It does not suit buyers who need higher pixel counts or 4K video recording.

Body-only kit requires lens and memory card

The camera ships as a body only, so an AF-S or AF lens must be mounted for autofocus operation; AI lenses are supported for metering only. Images are stored on SD, SDHC or SDXC cards inserted into the dual card slots. The EN-EL15 lithium-ion battery powers the body. Firmware should be updated before first use to address any shutter-related service advisories. Common issues include forgetting to format the card in-camera and leaving the sensor cleaning system off in dusty environments.

Questions about this item

What lens mount does the D610 body use so I know which lenses will attach?

The camera uses the Nikon F mount and works fully with AF-S or AF lenses while also metering with AI-type lenses.

Which battery do I insert first when setting up the camera, and what orientation does it need?

Insert the EN-EL15 lithium-ion battery with the contacts facing the camera interior until it clicks into the bottom compartment.

How often should I run the sensor-cleaning function to keep dust off the 24.3 MP FX-format CMOS sensor?

Run the built-in image-sensor cleaning cycle whenever you notice spots in images; the system vibrates the low-pass filter to shake off dust automatically.
