Wide zoom for Z-mount landscape work

The NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S covers an ultra-wide to wide focal range on Nikon FX-format mirrorless bodies. Its constant f/4 maximum aperture holds exposure steady from 14 mm to 30 mm, aiding landscape, architecture and astrophotography. A stepping motor delivers smooth, quiet autofocus suited to both stills and video. The lens accepts 82 mm filters for creative control.

Optical design resists flare and distortion

Four ED and four aspherical elements combine with Super Integrated and Nano Crystal coatings to suppress chromatic aberration, ghosting and flare. The 84-degree angle of view at the wide end captures expansive scenes while the optical formula keeps edge-to-edge sharpness high. Minimum aperture reaches f/32 for extended depth of field when required.

Compact weather-sealed construction

At 3.3 by 3.5 by 0.1 inches and 1.98 pounds the lens stays light for all-day carry. A fluorine coat on the front element repels water, oil and dust, while the barrel seals against moisture for reliable outdoor use. A programmable control ring lets you adjust aperture, exposure compensation or focus without leaving the viewfinder. The 82 mm thread matches many filter systems already in a kit.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the 82 mm filter thread without cross-threading the aluminium ring?

Screw the filter on straight with light finger pressure until it seats, then tighten only a quarter-turn more; the 82 mm thread is aluminium and strips if forced.

When will the fluorine coating on the front element need renewal?

The fluorine layer wears slowly; expect re-coating after several years of frequent cleaning if water stops beading on the glass.

What optical limit appears first during long exposures at 14 mm?

Vignetting at the corners is the first visible limit at 14 mm during extended astrophotography sessions.
