Compact USB-C multiport dock for laptops

The Nippon Labs 50USB31C-VGAF-3 adds a VGA output, a USB 3.0 port and a USB-C power pass-through to a single USB-C connection. It suits users who need to attach a legacy monitor and a peripheral while keeping their laptop charged. The six inch cable keeps the setup tidy on a desk or in a travel bag.

Passive adapter with no fan or external power draw

The unit draws its operating power from the host USB-C port and adds no active cooling components. Power delivery pass-through lets the laptop’s own charger supply the system while the dock is in use. No additional power supply or thermal management is required.

VGA output up to 1920x1200 and USB 3.0 data port

The VGA female connector supports resolutions up to 1920x1200 or 1080p for clear picture quality on compatible displays. The USB 3.0 Type-A port accepts printers, external hard drives, thumb drives and similar peripherals. The USB-C female port handles charging only and does not carry video or data signals. Not for users who need HDMI, DisplayPort or additional USB-C data ports.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the 6 inch USB-C cable to my laptop and VGA monitor without losing the charging port?

Plug the USB-C male end into the laptop, attach the VGA cable to the female VGA port for up to 1920x1200 output, then connect your laptop charger to the USB-C female port which is labelled charging only.

Will the USB-C power pass-through port need a different charger later if my laptop demands more watts?

The USB-C female port passes through whatever charger you already use; it adds no circuitry of its own, so any future power requirement is met by swapping the charger, not the dock.

What limits the USB 3.0 port speed when I run the VGA display at 1920x1200 and charge the laptop at the same time?

The single USB-C link carries DisplayPort Alternate Mode video plus USB 3.0 data and power delivery together, so sustained high-bandwidth transfers on the USB 3.0 port share that fixed pipe with the active 1920x1200 video stream.
