Application and sizing

This Nomaco Kflex elastomeric elbow fitting insulates a 2-1/2 inch pipe with a 2-7/8 inch outside diameter. The unslit 90-degree form wraps the bend without cutting, and the Buna-N rubber/PVC blend suits mechanical and industrial piping runs.

Thermal range and fire rating

The material operates continuously from minus 297 degrees F up to 220 degrees F and carries an R-value of 6.4. A flame spread index of 25 and plenum rating meet common building-code requirements for air-handling spaces.

Antimicrobial closed-cell structure

Closed-cell foam resists moisture absorption and includes antimicrobial protection to inhibit mould growth on the insulation surface. The flexible black jacket conforms to the elbow radius without additional tape or adhesive in typical installations.

Questions about this item

How do I install this unslit 90-degree elbow onto a 2-7/8" tube, and what step is commonly missed?

Slide the unslit fitting over the tube end before joining pipes; the step often missed is sealing the seam with compatible adhesive tape to maintain the R-6.4 rating and vapor barrier.

What maintenance or replacement will this Buna-N rubber/PVC elbow need over time?

Inspect annually for UV degradation, compression set, or antimicrobial coating wear; replace if the closed-cell foam shows cracking, hardening, or loss of flexibility at the 90-degree bend.

At what temperature limit does this plenum-rated insulation first fail under sustained use?

The maximum continuous operating temperature is 220°F; sustained exposure above this point degrades the Buna-N/PVC blend and reduces the flame spread index of 25.
