Compatible 180W power supply for Dell SFF systems

This 180W unit replaces the D180ES-00, AC180ES-00, L180ES-00 and F180ES-00 power supplies found in OptiPlex 3040, 5040, 7040 and Inspiron 3650 small form factor desktops. It is built for IT departments and home users who need a direct-fit replacement to restore power to these specific chassis. The supply matches the original form factor and connector layout for a straight swap.

Thermals noise and power draw

Rated at 180 watts, the supply delivers the same output as the original equipment for typical office workloads. The internal fan spins only as fast as the load requires, keeping acoustic output low during standard desktop use. Power draw at the wall scales with component demand, staying within the design limits of the supported SFF platforms.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 180W PSU in my Inspiron 3650 SFF and which step is often missed?

Remove the side panel, unplug the 24-pin and CPU cables from the old unit, slide the new supply into the chassis rails, secure it with the rear screws, reconnect both power cables, and double-check the CPU 4-pin connector is fully seated — that is the step most often missed.

What maintenance will the 180W power supply need over time in a 3040 or 5040 system?

Clean the intake vents and internal fan every six to twelve months with compressed air to prevent dust build-up; the electrolytic capacitors are rated for long life but plan to replace the entire unit after five to seven years of continuous use.
