Entry-level OBD2 engine code reader
The OBDMATE OM201 is a compact yellow scanner designed for car owners and DIY enthusiasts who want to diagnose check-engine lights at home. It connects through the standard 16-pin port on most petrol and diesel vehicles built after 2000 in the USA, 2002 in the EU and 2008 in Asia. No apps, Bluetooth pairing or software installation are required to start a scan.
Limited to core OBDII functions only
The tool reads and clears generic powertrain codes, displays freeze-frame data, shows I/M readiness status, retrieves the VIN and streams live sensor values with graphing. It cannot access manufacturer-specific modules such as ABS, airbag, transmission or body-control systems. Advanced bi-directional controls, key programming and ECU coding are also outside its capability.
Verify 12-volt 16-pin compliance before ordering
Confirm that your vehicle uses a 12 V electrical system and presents the standard 16-pin DLC connector in the cabin. Trucks running 24 V systems, pre-2000 US models, pre-2002 EU models and pre-2008 Asian models may not communicate with this scanner. The unit draws power directly from the diagnostic port, so no separate supply is needed.

Questions about this item
Should I choose the OM201 or another model for basic engine diagnostics?
The OM201 is a plug-and-play OBD2 scanner with full OBDII functions including read/clear codes, live data graphing, O2 sensor test, EVAP test and wireless QR-code reports. It covers 12 V vehicles with a 16-pin connector from 2000 (USA), 2002 (EU) and 2008 (Asia).
What does the 16-pin connector mean when I plug it into my car?
The 16-pin OBDII port gives access to all mandated OBD2 modes: generic and manufacturer codes, freeze frame, I/M readiness, VIN, live sensor data with graphing, oxygen sensor results, onboard monitor status and EVAP system test.
Does the wired 16-pin interface limit the data speed or functions compared to wireless tools?
The corded 16-pin connection powers the OM201 directly from the vehicle and delivers the complete OBDII function set — codes, live data, graphing, O2 test, EVAP test and QR-code report sharing — without Bluetooth pairing or battery charging.
