What it is and who it suits

This blue enclosure turns a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive or SSD into a portable USB 3.0 storage device. It accepts drives up to 9.5 mm thick and supports a maximum capacity of 6 TB per bay. The plastic housing requires no external power adapter, making it convenient for laptop users, console owners and anyone moving large files between computers, TVs or phones.

USB 3.0 practical limits

The enclosure connects through a USB 3.0 port with a 5 Gbps signalling rate and supports UASP and TRIM for improved throughput and SSD maintenance. Actual transfer speed will depend on the host controller, cable quality and the drive's own performance ceiling. Systems limited to USB 2.0 will fall back to much lower bandwidth, so the benefit is only realised on a native USB 3.0 connection.

Capacity ceiling that decides fit

The 6 TB per bay limit is the deciding specification; drives larger than that cannot be used in this enclosure. Buyers with 8 TB or higher capacity SATA drives will need a different solution, as will anyone needing to install more than one drive at a time.

Questions about this item

Which drive thickness does the enclosure accept?

It fits 2.5 inch SATA drives that are 7mm or 9.5mm thick, up to 6TB per bay.

What transfer speed does USB 3.0 deliver when the enclosure is in a real machine?

The USB 3.0 link runs at 5Gbps, and UASP plus TRIM support keep sustained reads and writes closer to that ceiling.

What does the SATA I/II/III internal interface cap in practice?

The drive inside can run at up to SATA III 6Gbps, but the external USB 3.0 connection limits actual throughput to 5Gbps.
