2.5-inch SATA enclosure for USB-C hosts

This enclosure accepts one 2.5-inch SATA hard drive or SSD up to 9.5 mm thick and connects it to a USB-C port. It is aimed at users who want to repurpose an internal drive for external storage or data recovery without opening a computer case.

USB 3.1 Gen 1 limits transfer to 5 Gbps

The external link runs at USB 3.1 Gen 1 speed, so the practical ceiling is 5 Gbps even though the internal SATA interface can reach 6 Gbps. The cable is a fixed 2 ft Type-A to Micro-B lead, so a Type-C connection requires an adapter or a different cable.

Single-drive bay with 6 TB maximum capacity

Only one drive fits inside and the manufacturer rates the enclosure for drives up to 6 TB. Builders who need to connect multiple drives or larger capacities must choose a different enclosure.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 9.5 mm or 7 mm version for my 2.5 inch drive?

One enclosure accepts both 9.5 mm and 7 mm 2.5 inch SATA drives, so no separate version choice is needed.

What does the 5 Gbps figure mean when the enclosure is connected to my laptop?

The USB 3.0 link tops out at 5 Gbps, so real-world transfer speeds will be limited to that ceiling regardless of the SATA drive inside.

Does the USB 3.1 Type-C port run at 5 Gbps or a higher speed?

The external interface is USB 3.1 Gen 1, which operates at 5 Gbps, matching the USB 3.0 rate quoted for data transfers.
