Host-to-target cable
The ORVIX SFF-8643 to 4X SATA cable connects a Mini SAS HD host port on a controller to four SATA drives. It is built for storage builders who need to break out a single high-density link into individual drive connections. The 3.3ft length suits typical chassis routing without excess slack.
Signal integrity
The assembly carries SAS and SATA signalling through a shielded bundle rated for internal use. No active components are present, so power draw is limited to the passive conductors and the GPIO sideband path. Thermal contribution inside the case is negligible.
GPIO sideband
A GPIO wire is included in the SFF-8643 plug to support sideband functions such as SGPIO or I²C drive-status reporting. This lets compatible controllers and backplanes show drive activity or fault LEDs without extra cabling. The feature works only when both the controller firmware and the target backplane implement the same sideband protocol.
How it compares

Questions about this item
How do I connect the SFF-8643 host end to my controller?
Align the SFF-8643 connector with the controller port and press firmly until it clicks; the GPIO signal pins must seat fully or drives will not be detected.
Will the four SATA connectors need periodic reseating?
The SATA plugs are rated for standard insertion cycles; reseat only if a drive drops from the OS or SMART reports intermittent link errors.
What length limit affects signal quality on this 1M assembly?
At 1M the cable meets SAS electrical specifications; longer runs would risk eye-diagram closure and increased bit-error rates.
