SlimSAS 4X to four SATA breakout
This 100 cm cable connects a single SFF-8654 38-pin SlimSAS 4X port to four standard SATA 7-pin devices. It is built for servers, data-storage arrays and workstations that need to fan out one high-density connector into multiple drive links. The slim connector and cable reduce clutter inside tight chassis.
Replaces bulkier multi-lane assemblies
Use this breakout when a controller or backplane offers a single SlimSAS 4X interface but the drives or hot-swap bays require individual SATA connections. The jump is worth it when rack density or cable routing makes traditional wide connectors impractical and four discrete 12 Gbps channels are needed.
Limited to SATA 3.0 device speeds
Each channel carries up to 12 Gbps on the SlimSAS side, yet attached SATA drives operate at the SATA 3.0 ceiling of 6 Gbps. The cable meets the SFF-8654 and SATA 3.0 specifications, so it cannot accelerate drives beyond the SATA interface limit or serve protocols other than SAS and SATA.

Questions about this item
What width and pin count does the SlimSAS connector use?
The SlimSAS end uses a 38-pin SFF-8654 connector that fits the standard 4X receptacle.
How do I route the 100cm cable without stressing the SATA latches?
Leave slack near each 7-pin SATA plug so the latch clicks without side load on the SlimSAS shell.
When should I replace the cable if 12Gbps errors appear?
Swap the cable if link errors persist after reseating both the 38-pin and four SATA connectors.
