It delivers registered ECC reliability for workloads that cannot tolerate data corruption. The single DIMM format lets administrators populate slots one at a time. It is not suitable for standard desktop PCs or consumer motherboards.

Registered ECC limits mixing and platform choice

Registered ECC DIMMs cannot be mixed with unbuffered or load-reduced modules on the same channel. The 288-pin DDR4 interface requires a server or workstation chipset that supports registered memory and ECC error correction. Backward compatibility covers 2133, 2400 and 2666 speeds, but the platform must still accept registered modules. Systems lacking registered-ECC support will not post with this DIMM installed.
