OWC 16GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM for Lenovo ThinkAgile

This 16GB DDR4 2933MHz registered ECC module is built for Lenovo ThinkAgile HX and VX servers running second-generation Xeon processors. It targets administrators who need to expand memory capacity in compatible enterprise systems without introducing unbuffered memory into a registered channel.

288-pin registered DIMM with 1.2V operation

The module uses a standard 288-pin RDIMM form factor and runs at 1.2V with CL21 latency. Registered buffering and ECC support mean it cannot be mixed with unbuffered DIMMs and will not function in standard desktop motherboards. No heat spreader is fitted, so airflow in the server chassis handles cooling.

Replaces Lenovo part numbers 01AG631.

Backward compatible with 2133MHz, 2400MHz and 2666MHz DDR4 speeds, the upgrade lets you populate empty slots or swap lower-capacity modules in the supported ThinkAgile models. The jump is worth it when workloads demand more than the factory-fitted memory can supply and the platform accepts registered ECC DIMMs.

Questions about this item

Does the DDR4 2933MHz interface limit speed when installed alongside slower modules?

The module runs at 2933MHz by default and will down-clock to 2666MHz, 2400MHz or 2133MHz to match the slowest DIMM in the channel.

What physical slot and clearance does the 288-pin RDIMM require?

It fits a standard 288-pin DDR4 DIMM socket; the module has no heat spreader, so it clears low-profile CPU coolers and dense server chassis.

How is the ECC registered DIMM installed, and what step do builders often miss?

Power down, open the chassis, align the notch with the keyed slot, press firmly until both latches click, then verify in BIOS that ECC and registered mode are enabled.
