1TB portable NVMe SSD

The OWC Envoy is a 1TB external solid-state drive built around a USB 3.2 interface and NVMe storage. Its aircraft-grade aluminium enclosure is palm-sized and bus-powered so it needs no separate adapter. A status LED shows power and activity at a glance. The drive is aimed at photographers, video editors and general users who want fast, rugged storage that works with USB-C Macs, iPads, PCs and mobile devices.

Upgrade from mechanical drives

Replacing a spinning hard drive with this Envoy removes the mechanical latency that slows file copies and application loads. The jump is worth it when you regularly move multi-gigabyte project folders or need reliable performance while travelling. The included USB-C cable connects directly to millions of existing USB-C ports without extra hubs. Buyers who need more capacity than 1TB or a second simultaneous drive for RAID will have to look elsewhere.

USB 3.2 practical limits

The USB 3.2 connection caps sustained transfer rates at the interface maximum, so real-world speeds will not exceed that ceiling regardless of the internal NVMe capability. Thunderbolt hosts will fall back to USB protocol unless the system negotiates a higher mode. Very long or low-quality cables can reduce throughput further. The drive has been engineered by a storage specialist operating since 1988 and carries a three-year limited warranty.

Questions about this item

What physical size is the OWC Envoy 1TB drive so I know it fits in my bag?

The drive is described as palm-sized with an aircraft-grade aluminium enclosure, making it small enough to carry in a pocket or small bag compartment.

How do I install the Envoy SSD and what common mistake should I avoid?

Connect the included USB-C cable to a USB-C port on your Mac, iPad, PC or dock; the drive is bus-powered so it requires no separate power adapter — ensure the host port supplies enough current for the SSD.

What maintenance or replacement will the OWC Envoy 1TB need over time?

No scheduled maintenance is required; the solid-state design has no moving parts, and the product is covered by a 3-year OWC limited warranty against defects.
