1TB NVMe Thunderbolt Hub

The OWC miniStack STX adds 1TB of NVMe storage and three Thunderbolt ports in a stackable silver enclosure. It delivers up to 770MB/s real-world performance for editing 4K video and backing up data. The hub also supplies 96W of charging power to a connected notebook through the same Thunderbolt connection.

Universal Thunderbolt Expansion

Suits users who need extra NVMe capacity and more Thunderbolt ports for drives, displays and accessories on Macs, PCs, iPads or Chromebooks. Not suited for buyers who want internal drive installation, a larger capacity than 1TB, or a non-Thunderbolt interface such as SATA or USB-only.

NVMe Over Thunderbolt Interface

The single specification that decides fit is the NVMe drive running over a Thunderbolt connection. If the host system lacks Thunderbolt ports the NVMe performance and the three downstream Thunderbolt ports cannot be used, so the product will not function as intended.

Questions about this item

How do I install the M.2 NVMe SSD into the miniStack STX, and what step do people often miss?

Insert the M.2 NVMe drive into the internal PCIe slot at an angle, press it down, and secure it with the screw. The step often missed is seating the drive fully before tightening the screw, which prevents the connector from making proper contact.

What maintenance or replacement will the miniStack STX need over time?

The internal NVMe SSD and any SATA drive you add are the only replaceable storage components. The Thunderbolt controller and 96W power delivery circuitry are not user-serviceable and do not require routine maintenance.

What performance limit appears first during sustained 4K video editing on the miniStack STX?

Real-world tested throughput peaks at 770MB/s, so extended 4K editing sessions will hit that bandwidth ceiling before the 96W charging or three Thunderbolt ports reach their limits.
