What this product is

The OWC Express 1M2 is an 8TB portable NVMe SSD built around a USB4 interface. It delivers up to 3151MB/s real-world throughput and works with Thunderbolt and USB-C hosts. The aircraft-grade aluminium enclosure acts as a silent heatsink, keeping the drive cool during sustained transfers. It suits creative professionals and performance enthusiasts who need fast external storage for tasks such as 4K video editing.

What to check on your existing setup

Your computer must provide a USB4, Thunderbolt or USB-C port capable of 40Gb/s to reach the quoted speed. The enclosure accepts M.2 2230, 2242 or 2280 NVMe modules, so verify the length of any drive you plan to install. Most Macs and PCs from 2020 onward will support the full performance, while older Thunderbolt and USB-C devices remain compatible at their native rates.

What the bundled accessories or software change

A USB-C cable rated for 40Gb/s is included, ensuring the link between drive and host does not bottleneck the 3151MB/s capability. The aluminium housing removes the need for active cooling, so the drive runs silently even under heavy workloads. Buyers who prefer a DIY build can supply their own NVMe module, while those wanting a ready-to-run solution can choose an OWC Aura powered configuration.
